Benny students have recognized Black History Month through various classroom activities this month. Our capstone activity was the all-school assembly featuring the Benny Choir, singing "Lift Every Voice and Sing", and Oba William King, poetic storyteller. Mr. King shared stories modeled after African tales in an engaging style, recognized our school's person of focus, Madam CJ Walker, and reminded students to advance their own academic interests with passion.
A group of students volunteered to research and put together a presentation on Madam CJ Walker that was shared at the district's Black History celebration at Brookside Campus on Friday, February 21. Students also decorated our school with posters, flags, and put together balloon displays.
